"It's winter now"

Today we woke up to cooler temperatures (this week we will only hit the 70s) and the inside temperature was "only" +20C and with the windows open, there was a cool breeze from the +17C outside, coming into the house. It's going to be a beautiful day - with perfect temperatures +23-24C.

My Daughter, sitting at the breakfast table in her shorts and t-shirt, was shivering. "Mom, it's winter now", my little Californian girl told me. "No, I said, you can't really say that actually, but it's starting to become fall", I replied while helping her with a long sleeved sweater. "But winter is when you're cold?", she said.

It's kind of tricky to teach your kid seasons "in theory"... and I still haven't gotten used to that my kids won't have the same meaning fall, winter and spring than I have, growing up in a place on earth where the seasons are clearly noticeable.

Oh, some leaves do turn yellow here and fall off, and come back in spring, and the temperatures drop during winter and we will (hopefully... we have a stage 2 alert) have rain and hit an occasional "freeze" night (meaning temperatures around 0F/36F), but it's just so subtle...

Hej!
Blir lite nyfiken. Hur länge har du bott i Californien?
Hälsar Anna i Philadelphia

You guys are lucky to have fall, or even a change in season :) don't take it for granted. I grew up in South Florida, and let me tell you there is literally no change in the seasons. I mean I don't want to be bitter but it was like Summer, Spring, Fall, where in the 90's and then winter was in the 70's. But I digress, It was a great post nonetheless. On a side note, I found a site that i think you'll like, its called baraaza.com

Yeah daft as it sounds,I miss the extremes. The gales and the sharp chill in the air. Even though the weather definetly changes here,it's like you said,a lot more subtle. A lot of the time,I feel like I'm on a film set as everything is so still outside. If we do get winds here they are usually fairly tame. I suppose after the latest hurricane problems in the other part of the country,I should be grateful.

Justin - well, it's always good to have something that marks that time goes by... ;-)

Britgirl - haha - I wish I was the star on the filmset... don't they clean your house then.. and bring you chocolate at your demand... ;-) Yes, after seeing those pictures from Galveston - we sure are lucky here...
