Sweden's National Day

After celebrating July 14 in France and and July 4 in California, celebrating June 6 in Sweden is kind of... "bleak"... as we would say in Swedish.

They've tried to do a lot for this day, Sweden's National Day and since a couple of years it's been a public holiday - but it seems we're still sort of "lost". At least me... I have no traditions or things I usually do on this day... No special food, no special event, no special place I "always do". And then I'm a huge fan of special days - and I love the.

Maybe it'll grow on us now when most people have the day off.

I can honestly say that perhaps I even celebrate it more when I'm in California than here.... But at least we put of the flag on the flag pole today.

hi maam

this is the first time.
when i found a spelling mistake on your blog.

"And then I'm a huge fan of special days - and I love the"

the last word i think should be 'them'.

regards

Great to see that flag flying though isn't it? Can i confess that I'm fed up with the one we see out here all the time?
(There goes my green card!)

nope - sorry, no traditions in our household - we are a pathetically non-traditional family....so i guess that's our tradition!

I really think that midsummers eve should be the Swedish National Day. Food, traditions, summer. Check! :)

Ja, jag håller med Jonas. Midsommaren borde vara sveriges nationaldag. Den har ju allt som är svenskt. 6 juni??? baaahh...

Anonymous - yes, seems the m got lost somewhere. Oh, I'm sure there are spelling mistakes - English is not my major language after all.

Britgirl - haha - well, I actually like them both, or actually flags in general. But of course it's kind of nice to see some yellow and blue now and then.

Cecilia - I don't really know what tradition to invent for this day... tricky... when I'm the US I used to make strawberry cake...

Jonas - Yes! You're so right! That is the unofficial national day.

Annika - japp! 6 juni känns lite påklistrat...
