I spent the day at IKEA. Isn't it so weird how a plain store can make you feel so strangely at (your old) home, even though you're far away. Because everything at IKEA looks exactly like it does in Sweden.Sometimes I almost jump when they speak English at the check out counter... and I always find it so funny when I have to pronounce the product names in "American" for people to understand me. Sometimes I get so gigglish at the whole situation. Proably making people think I'm even a more alien than I am...
Anyway, got the stuff I needed for tomorrow's big storage project. And of course a bag from the food shop filled with Swedish food essentials.

Hey, next time you go to IKEA, could you take some pics of teh food they have for slae? We are getting our first IKEA this fall, and I am already drooling about the possibilities... Some "food porn" pics would be great! ;-)
I so know what you're talking about. We got a couple of Ektorp couches a year or so ago and of course we had to ask for them at one of those little computer stations. So I tried to say as naturally as possible, "We'd like 2 Aaacktoorrrp couches, please" without cracking up. It felt so funny to have to mispronounce Swedish so that I would be understood. When I was a kid in Stockholm going to IKEA in Kungens Kurva (the round one!) was such a treat. I loved seeing all the cool kids' rooms and playing in "bollhavet" But when I was little the IKEA colors were red and white, not blue and yellow. Maybe they're still red and white in Sweden? Does anybody know? I guess Ingvar Kamprad did move to Switzerland so red and white are sort of fitting...

Sweflo - äsch, I forgot the camera tonight! Should have brought it with me - that could have been a fun post. Oh, well, a great reason to go back soon...
Liz - isn't it weird and funny! I'm usually there by myself (Husband avoids it, even though he is Swedish)... making me even more gigglish... I think IKEA now is blue and yellow even in Sweden... from what you can see on www.ikea.se. I love how they always have a Swedish flag outside the store!
Eh...det bor en elak liten jäkel i mig som ser på de olika namnen och ibland mycket oskyldigt frågar de anställda vad namnet på varan betyder....Ja, jag VET jag kommer att gå till ett varmt ställe då jag dör....
