I'm subscribing to the Swedish-American paper Vestkusten. It comes out with 20 issues every year and sort of look like mini-newspaper. It blends Swedish and English and "news" and information about the Swedish-American community in the western US. I kind of like it I think, it really keeps to it's old style and tradition. But at the same time it feels like a very "odd" channel of information these fast, internet days.But it's kind of nice to turn real paper pages now and then...

Jösses, en sådan där gammeldags tidning kan jag tro, eller? Som känns som om den är skriven på ett mkt ålderdomligt sätt. Brukade prenumerara på "Nordstjernan" och vid ett tillfälle tidningen "Norden". Jag kan se att Vestkusten har precis samma stuk som ovan nämnda tidningar, lite gulligt. Ska ta och kolla in om tidningarna jag skrev om fortfarande finns i omlopp, men det gör dom säkert...
I used to read it, but then the subscription ran out and I didn't renew it so I stopped by accident almost. I did enjoy it, but I didn't like the 'quaintness' and the language mistakes and the endless photos of people eating crayfish...
Annika - ja, den har lång historia. Fast om den är skriven på ålderdomligt sätt vet jag inte - mest typsnitt/layout... Har faktiskt aldrig sett en Nordstjernan på "riktigt". Men ja, den är lite gullig. Men mer nostaligskt att ha än att det faktiskt ger. "Nyheterna" har jag sedan länge läst om på nätet...
Lotta K - haha - there were LOTS of pictures of crayfish eating people. I'm not sure about their editorial strategies... "combine old news from the old country with a touch of People"? And why is there a Swedish weather forecast on the front page... I like it's history and I like to support it staying alive, but I really do think there is a lot that could be done with it. I had some money on my paypal account and paid one year subscription. We'll see if I will renew it.
Kul att läsa kommentarerna om Vestkusten som precis slukats av Nordstjernan. Nu finns det bara två "svenska" tidningar i Nordamerika och här är en link till det sista numret av Swedish Press som ges ut från Vancouver, Kanada, men har prenumeranter i alla amerikanska stater. "Svenska Pressen" startade 1929 som en veckotidning och såg då ut som Nordstjernan, men är numera en månadstidning och hoppas jag det bästa sättet att följa Sverige och svensk-amerika - eftersom det är jag som ger ut den.
