A Swedish phenomena...

Or actually, more a European phenomena. Because you can find small "stores" like this all over Europe. Selling tobbacoo, magazines, newspapers, sweets, ice cream, small stuff and offering gaming of all kinds (horse racing, fotboll betting etc).

In Sweden they're called "tobaksaffärer"... and they're everywhere (even though stores like 7Eleven have started to take over more and more).

This "tobaksaffär" has one of the greatest locations in Stockholm. It's located in the Old Town, at Slussplan, right where Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea meets. The other day I bought a bunch of magazines here and a TopHat ice cream and sat down reading and watching the boats go by through the locks.

It's summer in Stockholm!

Ooh i really miss the local newsagents as we call them back home. Ours are usually very effectivly run by Asian familys and are open until about 10 pm.
Thats where we go when we're young to buy our sweets! (or should i say candy!)They often have a post office in them too.
I also miss Charity shops. (Thrift shops are not a big thing here!)
You never know what you'll find in them! I suppose there's always Yard sales!Anyway i digress!LOL!

Annika - hej, välkommen hit! Livet i Californien är toppen - dock är jag just nu på fem veckors "sommarlov" i Sverige! Inte så tokigt det heller faktiskt!

Annika - ja... så små och knökfulla med saker....

Miranda - yes, they're probably the same as our "tobaksaffärer"... They usually sell stamps, and nowadays some of them functions as post offices as well. Haven't thought about thrift stores - I wasn't a frequent visitor - and actually can't really recall were there is one in Stockholm (which may explain my infrequent visits...).

Veronika - ja!! Ser dock tendeser med "International Press"-butiker... precis som "kedje-coffeshops" blir allt vanligare... kommer "fiken" försvinna...??
